The current position
CHA does not currently deploy Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, advertising cookies, behavioural profiling, session replay or a newsletter tracker. The website uses limited device storage for privacy choices and, only when requested, a nomination draft. Privacy-enhanced YouTube players are blocked until embedded media has been allowed.
Hosting infrastructure may process ordinary request and security information needed to deliver the website, such as IP address, user agent, request timing and error/security logs. These are not used by CHA for advertising.
Technology categories
| Category | Current technology | Purpose / duration | Choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary | cha-privacy-preferences in local browser storage | Records notice version, decision time and embedded-media choice for up to 12 months. | Needed to remember the choice and avoid repeatedly asking. |
| Functional | cha-nomination-draft in local browser storage | Stores the text of an unfinished nomination on that device until submission, clearing or browser deletion. | Created only when the visitor presses “Save draft on this device”. It is never silently sent to CHA. |
| Analytics | None currently deployed | No CHA analytics cookie or tracker is currently set. | Not in use. |
| Marketing | None currently deployed | No advertising pixel or marketing tracker is currently set. | Not in use. |
| Embedded Media | YouTube privacy-enhanced player at youtube-nocookie.com | Loads only when a visitor allows embedded media and presses play. YouTube may then process device, request and viewing information under its own terms. | Off by default. Accept or reject, and change later. |
The words “cookies” and “tracking tools” on this page include similar browser technologies where they perform a comparable function.
YouTube and external media
Before permission, CHA uses its own local event photographs as video covers. It does not request YouTube thumbnails or player code. If embedded media is allowed, the player uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain and loads only after a play action. This reduces initial tracking but does not make YouTube a CHA service.
You can always follow an “Open on YouTube” link instead. Doing so takes you to a third-party service whose cookies and privacy practices are governed by that service.
Accept, reject or change your choice
The first-level notice gives equally visible options to accept all currently used optional technologies, reject non-essential technologies, or manage the embedded-media setting. Optional media is not pre-enabled.
Use Cookie Preferences in the footer at any time to change the setting. You can also clear site data in your browser. Turning embedded media off stops new YouTube players from loading and removes an active embedded player from the page; third-party data already processed by YouTube is governed by YouTube’s own retention rules.
A nomination draft is user-requested storage rather than a background tracker. Clearing browser storage may permanently remove that local draft.
If the technology changes
If CHA later introduces analytics, marketing or another non-essential technology, it must update this policy, update the preference interface and obtain an affirmative choice before that technology loads. A prior choice for embedded media will not be treated as consent to a new unrelated purpose.
